CARAS of the Americas invites you to participate in one of our alternative spring

LEARNING: Programs include seminars, talks, and tours about concerning grassroots
community development, the political history of Puerto Rico and its impact on
poverty, the educational system and its challenges, wetland ecosystems and their
importance for the wellbeing of all and the economy, agriculture and other special

SERVICE: Serve as a volunteer in our education project, several environmental
projects, an agricultural project and other community-service activities. Understand
grassroots community development and how it should be coordinated within a
sustainable model. Meet community leaders and hear their testimonies regarding
poverty and other challenges to the development of their communities. Comprehend
what it takes to become a community leader. Acquire the tools necessary to impact
your own community-you already have the capacity!

CULTURAL EXCHANGE: Be a part of Puerto Rico. Share experiences with our people,
enjoy our food, dance to the rhythm of our cultures, and bathe in our warm beaches
until the sun goes down. REMEMBER the experience and live it!

Caras coordinates week-long encounters in Puerto Rico for university groups during
their spring-break sessions and throughout the year. Programs use a service-learning
format to gain a deep understanding of Puerto Rican realities and the communities
participants will serve throughout their encounter. Programs include several
educational sessions, 5 service activities, visits to a rainforest and
mangrove-wetland, visits to 5 towns and 3 beaches, 4 tours and the coordination of
all logistics. The programs can be tailored to the group's interests. Please contact
